A LITTLE ABOUT ROGER FEDERER
Born August 8, 1981, Roger Federer is a Swiss professional tennis player, ranked World No. 1 for a record 237 consecutive weeks. Federer has won a record breaking fifteen Grand Slam singles titles (three Australian Open, six Wimbledon, five US Open, and one French Open). Federer holds many records in the game, including having appeared in ten consecutive Grand Slam men's singles finals (2005 Wimbledon Championships through the 2007 US Open) and 22 consecutive Grand Slam singles semifinals (2004 Wimbledon - present). He also holds the open era records for consecutive wins on both grass courts (65) and hard courts (56). He is one of six male players to have accomplished the career Grand Slam. Federer won the men's doubles gold medal for Switzerland in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, partnering with compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka. He has a storied rivalry with Rafael Nadal.
Roger Federer was upset in the U.S Open final on Monday by Juan Martin Del Potro with a final score of 6-3, 6-7, 6-4, 6-7, 2-6. Federer seemed to dominate the match in the first and most of the second set. A challenge that went Del Potro's way put the second set in Del Potro's hands. Federer became angry after Del Potro was allowed to make a late challenge. Federer came back to win the 3rd set, but made too many mistakes (11 double faults) to win the match.
Roger Federer defeated Robin Soderling in the Quarter Finals of the U.S Open reaching his 22nd consecutive grand slam semifinal. Federer had a fairly easy start winning the first set 6-0 and second set 6-3. However, Soderling found his way back winning the 3rd set 7-6. Federer managed to end the match by winning the tiebreak in the 4th. Federer seemed in awe of his own semifinal record saying, "not what I aimed for, that's for sure," ... "I don't know what to say. It's probably one of the greatest records for me personally in my career. I'm glad it keeps going" Federer will face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals on Saturday.
