Federer Bows Out of Dubai and Davis Cup

Roger Federer has pulled out of next-month's Davis Cup series against the United States, according to his website, and will skip next week's men's tournament in Dubai as he recovers from a back injury.

Federer, who lost to Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open, said he did not have enough time to completely strengthen his back after hurting it last fall. He is taking the break as a precautionary measure.

Federer's absence is the latest blow for the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships after the United Arab Emirates refused to grant a visa to Israeli player Shahar Peer, citing security concerns.

Rivalry Continues at Australian Open Final

Roger Federer faced an emotional defeat Sunday in the Australian Open final against his biggest rival, Rafael Nadal. There was a lot on the line for Federer who was chasing a record fourteenth major title equaling Pete Sampras. After five sets Nadal proved to be the victor in a well played 5th set. Federer broke into tears as he received the runner up tray from his idol, Rod Laver. Both Federer and Nadal were extremely gracious to one another. Federer insisted that Nadal was the deserving victor, "You deserved it. You played a fantastic final," and Nadal consoled Federer on the loss, "Roger, sorry for today, remember, you're a great champion, you're one of the best in history. You're going to improve on the 14 of Sampras." Federer played an incredible tournament and we look forward to the rest of the season.
