Federer Hands Over His U.S Open Crown

Roger Federer was upset in the U.S Open final on Monday by Juan Martin Del Potro with a final score of 6-3, 6-7, 6-4, 6-7, 2-6. Federer seemed to dominate the match in the first and most of the second set. A challenge that went Del Potro's way put the second set in Del Potro's hands. Federer became angry after Del Potro was allowed to make a late challenge. Federer came back to win the 3rd set, but made too many mistakes (11 double faults) to win the match.

Federer Seeking 6th U.S Open

Roger Federer defeated Robin Soderling in the Quarter Finals of the U.S Open reaching his 22nd consecutive grand slam semifinal. Federer had a fairly easy start winning the first set 6-0 and second set 6-3. However, Soderling found his way back winning the 3rd set 7-6. Federer managed to end the match by winning the tiebreak in the 4th.
Federer seemed in awe of his own semifinal record saying, "not what I aimed for, that's for sure," ... "I don't know what to say. It's probably one of the greatest records for me personally in my career. I'm glad it keeps going" Federer will face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals on Saturday.

Federer Becomes a Father!!!!

"I have some exciting news to share with you," is how Roger Federer broke the much anticipated news announcing last night that he and wife, Mirka Vavrinac, had become "proud parents of twin girls!" The girls were born in Switzerland on July 23rd and were named Myla Rose and Charlene Riva. Federer seemed very excited about becoming a father saying on his website, "This is the greatest day of our lives. Mirka, Myla and Charlene are all healthy and doing very well." Roger and Mirka met at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and were married in March of this year. They had kept almost all of the details of the pregnancy secret.

15 For Federer!!!!

Roger Federer ended the debate about his GOAT status on the 5th of July at the 2009 Wimbledon Championship. In an exciting match that lasted over 4 hours and ended with the longest set ever played in the history of tennis, Federer captured his 15th grand slam, breaking Pete Sampras's all time record of 14 slams. This, of course, makes Federer the new holder of the all time grand slam record. Andy Roddick played an exceptional final against Federer pulling out one amazing serve after the next. Federer's ability to keep cool despite not being able to break Roddick is, what I believe, won him the match. The champ seamed at a loss for words saying, "I'm very proud of all the records I've achieved because I never thought I would be that successful as a kid. I would have been happy winning a couple tournaments and maybe collecting Wimbledon. It's quite staggering now..."

This win also brought Federer back to his number one ranking after losing it to Nadal last year. The legends Pete Sampras, Bjorn Borg, and Rod Laver came out to welcome Federer into their club.

ROGER WINS THE FRENCH!!!!

After a strange start to the French Open final, with a scary fan prancing around the court, Roger Federer swept through a clean match in straight sets beating Robin Soderling of Sweden. Soderling was the surprise finalist who left everyone in awe and anxiety after upsetting Rafael Nadal , the reigning champion of Roland Garros. Federer has now completed a career slam, being only one of six in history to have done so. He also (as you may have hear) equaled Pete Sampras's record of 14 grand slams. This victory seemed to be an extremely emotional one for Federer, who began to show nerves in the last two games of the third set. This victory also brought back the questions about Federer being the GOAT; questions that Federer diverted by saying "maybe we'll never know." Federer bowed out of his usual warm up grass tournament in Halle, Germany to recuperate in time for Wimbledon.

Federer Bows Out of Dubai and Davis Cup

Roger Federer has pulled out of next-month's Davis Cup series against the United States, according to his website, and will skip next week's men's tournament in Dubai as he recovers from a back injury.

Federer, who lost to Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open, said he did not have enough time to completely strengthen his back after hurting it last fall. He is taking the break as a precautionary measure.

Federer's absence is the latest blow for the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships after the United Arab Emirates refused to grant a visa to Israeli player Shahar Peer, citing security concerns.

Rivalry Continues at Australian Open Final

Roger Federer faced an emotional defeat Sunday in the Australian Open final against his biggest rival, Rafael Nadal. There was a lot on the line for Federer who was chasing a record fourteenth major title equaling Pete Sampras. After five sets Nadal proved to be the victor in a well played 5th set. Federer broke into tears as he received the runner up tray from his idol, Rod Laver. Both Federer and Nadal were extremely gracious to one another. Federer insisted that Nadal was the deserving victor, "You deserved it. You played a fantastic final," and Nadal consoled Federer on the loss, "Roger, sorry for today, remember, you're a great champion, you're one of the best in history. You're going to improve on the 14 of Sampras." Federer played an incredible tournament and we look forward to the rest of the season.
